Fans thought it was over. They cried and took sides as Team Conrad and Team Jeremiah after the Season 3 finale of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" dropped on Prime Video. But turns out, the story isn’t finished yet. Author and series creator Jenny Han just confirmed that a movie is officially in the works to wrap up the beloved YA drama.

The reveal came hours after the finale aired. While fans were still reeling from the love triangle’s final twist, Amazon quietly rolled out a surprise: a feature film is coming. Not just talk, not a vague idea, but greenlit and on the way.

It is the real ending, and Jenny Han is finally explaining why the story needs one last chapter, and why it is not coming as a Season 4.

A Red Carpet Surprise and a Not-So-Final Finale

At the finale event in Paris, the cast played it cool. Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, and the rest of the gang smiled for the cameras and acted like the finale was the big goodbye. No one said a word about a movie. But then, something changed.

After the screening, fans walked out of the Théâtre Marigny and saw it: A fresh marquee for "The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie". Even Tung and Briney snuck outside earlier for moody red carpet pics in front of it.

TSIP / IG / Speaking from the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris, Han spilled the truth. The movie is the final piece of Belly’s story.

And for Han, there was always one major moment left that deserved its own spotlight, a milestone that ties the whole thing together.

Why the Story Needs a Movie, Not a Fourth Season?

Han says the third season was really about Belly growing up. She explains that ending the story with just a quick scene or two after the Conrad reunion would’ve felt rushed. The big love story finally came full circle in the finale, but the journey isn't quite finished.

That next step, the one hinted at in the epilogue of her third book, “We'll Always Have Summer,” needs more room to breathe. That is where the movie comes in.

The finale showed Belly and Conrad finding their way back to each other. It took a trip to Paris, a lot of pain, and a few brutally honest fights. But the result was clear: Belly chooses Conrad. Just like in the book. Jeremiah fans were crushed, but the series stayed true to Han’s original ending.

Still, the way it all played out was different. The show added more emotion, more mess, and more heartache before the happy ending finally landed.

The Ending Fans Deserve

Han says that the reunion scene had to feel real. It couldn’t just be sweet or soft. It had to be intense and earned. They have hurt each other, waited for each other, and now they’re finally on the same page. It took years, distance, and a lot of heartbreak, but Belly and Conrad finally grew into their love.

TSIP / IG / Han says three seasons is the right shape for the story. Adding more episodes would mean creating extra conflict, and honestly, fans are tired.

After everything Belly and Conrad have been through, who really wants another season of drama and problems? Han jokes that the audience just wants them to be happy. A movie lets them do that without dragging it out.

Plus, it is also about pacing. A movie can move faster, hit the big emotional beats, and give fans closure without the wait.
